Background Image
- The background image is a shot of the original composition, but taken while moving the camera (a digital Fujifilm MX-600 Zoom).
- The original and background images were copied to new layers in Photoshop, and both overexposed using a filter from the free “Photo Image” collection created by Michiel Kamermans.
- The overexposed original was layered above the overexposed background: blending mode Luminosity, Opacity 100%.
- To bring back some color and detail, another copy of the original image (standard exposure) was layered: blending mode Multiply, Opacity 50%.
- A copy of the merged layers so far was brought into the working file as a new layer, for further adjustment.
- To heighten contrast, the working file was duplicated and converted to Lab mode. The Lightness channel was copied into the original file as a new layer: blending mode Soft Light, Opacity 20%.
- To increase color saturation, the Lightness channel of the Lab mode file was filled with white, leaving only color in the Lab channel which was then copied into the working file as a new layer: blending mode Multiply, Opacity 100%.
