Walking behind stores of a small shopping mall in Asheville, North Carolina, the hues and patterns of this door to a loading bay caught my eye through the falling snow.

I’m grateful to each of you who took the time to stop by this past year—for your comments and encouragement. Happy New Year, everyone!

  1. Hi, April – and a Happy New Year to you! I’ve grateful for friends like you whom I have met and can follow your work in a blog like this and on the TME forum.

At first glance I thought this was a shot of some closed blinds with some sort of decorative border – and then thought that perhaps this is either a door to a warehouse or its siding, or that you shot straight down to catch the edge of a boardwalk.

In any case, even if I didn’t know at first what it is, I like what you’ve captured here. And I wonder how many work people who use this door every day have ever seen this nice abstract beauty that you’ve captured. Probably not.

This is a reminder that beauty is all around us; that if we slow down and really look, we’ll see it.

  2. Flo, I seem to remember you planning to begin a photoblog this year too…? 🙂

“Playfulness” is the word that comes to mind when I think of your approach to photography, so I look forward to it!
