One of our assignments during the Miksang Institute Summer Program was titled “Simplicity—the Relationship of Form and Space”. Out of ten images submitted for review, only one of mine hit the mark! These were photographed a couple of days later, and might have been judged acceptable…or maybe not.

I’ll keep working on it.

Imprints on a schoolyard door in our neighborhood. I had to go back the next day just to make sure it was not a painted design, but actually the result of children at play.

A recent article in the Chicago Tribune noted:

“When recess returns to all CPS elementary and middle schools next fall, many educators will be at a loss. Most CPS schools haven’t had recess in 30 years… There was one other interesting aspect that emerged in the reporting of this story, too. After so long without recess, do kids even know how to play all those old recess games—like four square, tag and dodgeball—at all?”

How sad!

Walking behind stores of a small shopping mall in Asheville, North Carolina, the hues and patterns of this door to a loading bay caught my eye through the falling snow.

I’m grateful to each of you who took the time to stop by this past year—for your comments and encouragement. Happy New Year, everyone!

Only 20°F outside, so it’s a good day to process older photographs.

Though I must have passed these subjects in a back alley many times before, on this particular September morning they jumped out at me. I’m learning we can pass the same things over and over, but their appearance is constantly changing.

Warming up on my own before the second day of exercises during the Miksang photography workshop in Boulder, I was delighted by the colors in this setting.
